Nissan has revealed the harder and faster Track Edition of their 2017 GT-R, in case there were some buyers of the new Japanese all-wheel drive super sports car that were left wanting in the performance department.

The headlining feature that this new Track Edition brings with it would be the all-new adaptive Damptronic suspension that was designed and developed specifically for this car in collaboration with Bilstein with Nismo.

These new suspension components have been tuned for use on the race track, hence the name, and is meant to endow the GT-R with greater straight line stability and in-corner poise, especially when paired with the new 20-inch forged aluminium wheels and bespoke tyres.

Perhaps thankfully, Nissan has chosen to leave the power output from the revised-for-2017 version of the twin-turbo 3.8-litre VR38DETT V6 engine unchanged over the standard car, pushing out the same 420kW and 637Nm of torque.

When using the in-built launch control system in tandem with the 7-speed twin-clutch transmission, the GT-R Track Edition is able to reach 100km/h from rest in 3.3 seconds. Nissan hasn’t highlighted any weight-shedding numbers, so we’re assuming that the variances do not warrant a mention.

However, speaking of variances, the GT-R Track Edition’s kit does vary between markets. These concern the lightweight Recaro bucket seats from the 2015 GT-R Black Edition and the carbon fibre rear spoiler. Examples sold in Germany get the Recaros as standard, but not the lightweight wing. Either way, buyers can also opt to have the carbon fibre boot lid.

Unlike the GT-R Nismo, however, the Track Edition isn’t void of all creature comforts lost in the pursuit of outright speed and lap times. Customers still get the upgraded touchscreen infotainment system and 8-inch central display, much of the leather that adorned the GT-R Premium is kept, so too is the 11-speaker Bose audio system.
