Nissan Quietly Teases A ‘Record-Breaking’ GT-R Nismo

It's just a teaser, but we have to ask: Will there be many records left to break after Nismo is finished?

Something interesting is brewing at Nissan’s performance and motorsport division Nismo, as a new video has popped up at Nissan Middle East’s Youtube channel of all places. Apart from what was revealed in the short 16-second trailer, Nissan has not really been forthcoming with further details as yet.

Seems they’re going for some kind of world record. Can we safely assume that will include high speed? Probably, but we’re not sure that that will be the record-breaking metric.

Not much of the car itself was shown in the video for much longer than a second, but from the brief little glimpses we deduce that it’s a modified version of the Nissan R35 GT-R Nismo N Attack Package that comes with a front end that looks a lot like the just-revelaed 2017 GT-R (though, the rest of the car does not), lots of extra aero, a sequential shifter and a very apparent and very large intercooler.

We already know the standard GT-R, as well as the harder, lighter, more powerful GT-R Nismo are both already a very fast cars, but we still wonder how much more power they can (are willing?) to extract from the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine. In the standard Nismo, the powerplant produces 447kW of power and 652Nm of torque.

But there is a very active community of tuners out there that specialise in the GT-R, with some units pushing 1500hp (1118kW) while keeping the car fairly standard-feeling and looking.

Perhaps, Nissan is looking beyond out and out speed/power to set its new world record. Whatever that may be, we wish them all the luck, although we feel they’ll hardly need it.
