Nissan Pioneers Social Car-Sharing

Renault-Nissan Alliance CEO Carlon Ghosn announced earlier this week that Nissan would be launching a new social car-sharing platform for Japanese brand, Nissan. Billed the ‘Intelligent Get & Go Micra’ programme, it will permit users to purchase a Micra for shared use with other members of a group, determined by an algorithm that will match users to a group based on patterns & geolocation information on social networking.

The scheme will exclusively utilise the Nissan Micra in Acenta spec, powered by a 0.9-litre turbocharged engine, good for 66kW of twist. The entirely digital platform will match owners with compatible transport needs, and will be billed monthly based on usage of the little hatchback. Costs of insurance, servicing, and access to the application and scheme will be included in the cost of membership, which will also limit annual usage of each Micra to 15,000kms combined.

“We are moving forward to a future where car usage may be more flexible, social, and shared. At Nissan, we are pioneering new ways to enjoy the freedom and financial benefits of shared car ownership. There is no better vehicle to launch this program than the all-new Micra, which embodies the vision of Nissan Intelligent Mobility,” Ghosn said.

The scheme will launch first in Paris this year, with usage kicking off in April 2017. More details to follow.
