Nissan has taken an aggressive approach to rapidly improve services for electric vehicle owners in Europe with plans to halve the price of quick charge stations in order to have thousands operational by the end of next year.

In collaboration with many of Europe’s electrical giants, Nissan has reduced the price of quick charge stations by more than 50 per cent to less than €10,000, making it reasonable for businesses such as service stations and car parks to buy and install them and run them as a profit source.

Using quick charge stations enables electric vehicle owners whose cars have a quick charge facility (such as the Nissan LEAF) to re-charge their batteries from zero to 80 per-cent capacity in under 30 minutes.

In real-world use in Europe, the Nissan LEAF is achieving a range between re-charges of 175kms so a broader network of quick charge stations will pave the way for much greater acceptance of electric vehicles. Currently the Nissan LEAF has been delivered to customers in the UK, the Netherlands, the Republic of Ireland, France, Spain and Portugal.
