Nissan has revealed a 2013 launch in North America of an all-new hybrid vehicle.
Expect a 2.5-litre supercharged petrol engine to partner with a new hybrid-electric powertrain (powered by lithium-ion batteries) driving through a continuously variable transmission.
Nissan says the new petrol-electric hybrid will deliver an output equivalent to a 200kW, 3.5-litre V6 engine.
It’s not entirely new technology for Nissan – a similar powerplant was fitted to the Infiniti M35h hybrid.
The company did not say which models will score the hybrid engine, but the new Altima, Murano and Pathfinder would seem natural choices.
