Auto Alliance – the Thailand-based joint venture between Ford and Mazda – has announced a $US350 million investment in its assembly plant to produce the next generation of Ford ranger and Mazda BT50 models.
Production of the new models is scheduled to commence next year.
The extra investment brings the joint venture’s total outlay in Thailand to $US1.85 billion.
Auto Alliance exports Ford and Mazda utes to more than 130 markets worldwide, including Australia.
A separate Auto Alliance plant in Thailand, opened in 2009, produces the Mazda2 and Ford Fiesta.
