The Volkswagen Amarok recently made its debut in South America where, while not really being ready at the showrooms, is readying the new and improved pick-up for its wider release, including to the Australian market which happens on November 24th.
If case you haven’t already got wind about, the Amarok will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 engine. However, before it reaches us, Volkswagen is seeing fit to raise power and torque figures. A welcome development, although these elevated numbers are only available during a 10 second overboost period.
Specifically, output jumps to 180kW (a 15kW increase) while peak torque is raised by 30Nm to 580Nm and is accessible in either 3rd or 4th gear at speeds in excess of 50km/h once the accelerator is depressed beyond 70 percent of its outward extensions.
Once that 10 second boost period is depleted, the system will need a 5 second interval before being ready again.
This newly announced function gives the refreshed Amarok an even larger performance lead over its predecessors. Volkswagen claims that the turbocharged V6-powered ute can accelerate to 100km/h from rest in 7.9 seconds as well as strong rolling performance, reaching 120km/h from 80km/h in 5.5 seconds.
Currently, over 6000 inquiries of interest have been registered for the new pick-up. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Director Carlos Santos said: “The Amarok V6 is not an over-hyped concept or a badge engineering exercise. It’s real, it’s almost here and it brings the world’s best V6 turbo diesel, the same unit used by Porsche and Audi in luxury SUVs.”
