Toyota has launched the latest version of its nicely-styled Avensis, four-door sedan in the UK.

Although it’s not sold locally, the mid-size Toyota Avensis is enormously popular with UK fleet and private buyers.

That appeal is enhanced with the new model thanks to reduced running costs and road taxes resulting from improvements to the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. Delivering 110kW, the Avensis’ Toyota D-4D engine now enjoys 15 per cent better fuel consumption at 3.8l/100kms and exhaust emissions are down to 119g/km – mostly thanks to a revised turbocharger and standard fitment of low rolling resistance tyres.

The petrol alternative is Toyota’s 1.8-litre, four-cylinder.

Toyota says a stiffer bodyshell and revised suspension settings have improved the Avensis’ ride and handling, while extra sound deadening is part of the story behind reduced NVH.

The Toyota Avensis goes head-to-head in the UK market against rivals like the Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia and Toyota says the newcomer beats all the rest for cost of ownership (a major factor in fleet purchase decisions).
