Frankfurt may be Germany’s financial hub but the bi-annual Motor Show is a focus for brands from all over Europe.
For example, Fiat will roll-out a more powerful 0.9-litre TwinAir engine for the 500 plus a ‘GQ’ edition model, luxury ‘Black Code’ version of the Freemont ‘crossover’ and a special Panda 4X4 ‘Antractica’.
Of special interest will be the unique Fiat 500e – an electric version of the iconic Fiat compact which is destined only for California.
Fiat Freemont has gained traction in Australia as a value-loaded seven-seat crossover and in Frankfurt Fiat will unveil a new range-topper – the ‘Black Code’. Gloss black everywhere, 19-inch alloys and comprehensive features inside, the Fiat Freemont ‘Black Code’ seems ideal for chauffeurs and airport transfer operators.
The new 0.9-litre version of the TwinAir engine in the Fiat 500 is all about optimised fuel consumption. With 78kW/145Nm, the new engine propels the Fiat 500 from zero to 100km/h in 10 seconds and fuel use is rated at 4.2l/100kms.
Additionally, Fiat 500L models in Europe gain new 88kW/206Nm versions of the 1.4T-Jet petrol and 1.6 MultiJetII turbo-diesels.
Brand snobs will be keen on the cabriolet version of the Fiat 500 developed in conjunction with men’s magazine GQ. With two-tone metallic paintwork and black Frau leather seats, this is one for the fashionistas.
More than 400,000 Pandas have been sold since Fiat launched the unique looker three generations ago. And while the Panda finally debuts in Australia late this year, at Frankfurt Fiat will roll-out the limited edition ‘Antarctica’ model.
Powered by either the 0.9-litre TwinAir or 1.3-litre MultiJet II diesel, the Fiat Panda Antarctica runs two-tone white/black paint, grey 15-inch alloy wheels with orange centre caps and orange mirrors. Inside are grey/orange seats. Befitting its title, the Fiat Panda Antarctica runs on 15-inch ‘Snowflake’ M+S winter tyres.
