New Hyundai Elantra Gets American Safety Green Tick

Hyundai’s all-new Elantra sedan – on the horizon for launch in Australia – has scored a ‘Top Safety Pick’ from the North American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Known to be tough markers (electronic stability control must be standard before a new vehicle is even considered for evaluation), the IIHS awarded the new Hyundai Elantra its highest ‘Good’ rating in all of its crash test categories.

That means the new Hyundai Elantra performed well in tests for front impact, side impact, rollover and rear crash protection.

“Elantra safety has improved tremendously over the years with the vehicle now earning IIHS’ top safety distinction,” explained David Zuby, IIHS’ chief research officer. “The big things the automakers have done to improve crashworthiness are designing better crush zones to manage crash energy, stronger occupant compartments to limit intrusion and stronger roofs to better protect people in rollovers.”
