Massive improvements, including new engines, extra specifications and price reductions up to $4,200 as Volvo launches its revised 2011 lineup.
Star billing goes to a new 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder T6 petrol engine for S60, S80, V70 and XC60 and an all-new 2.0-litre GTDi turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the entry-level XC60.
The new T6 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine scores massive performance gains and actually replaces Volvo’s V8 engine in the S80 with identical torque. Maximum power is 224kW while peak torque has grown to 440Nm.
Internal improvements and new features like Hydraulic Power Assisted Steering means the new T6 improves its green credentials with consumption down to 10.2l/100kms and emissions reduced to 243g/km.
Similar story with the XC90’s Euro5-compliant, 2.4-litre, five-cylinder turbo-diesel with output up to 147kW/420Nm. XC90 shares its 3.2-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with the XC70 – power has grown to 180kW, while torque is unchanged at 320Nm.
No changes for the XC90’srange-topping 232kW/440Nm, 4.4-litre petrol V8.
Volvo XC70 is also offered with an improved 2.4-litre D5 diesel engine now providing 151kW of power and 420Nm of torque.
Volvo’s excellent XC60 SUV range scores a boost with a new entry-level model priced at $54,150 and powered by an all-new GTDi (gasoline turbocharged direct injection) 2.0-litre engine. The front-drive XC60 T5 shares the 160kW/320Nm engine with the S60 sedan.
For the Volvo C70 convertible, S40 sedan and V50 wagon – well it’s a shared engine, the 169kW/320Nm 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol five-cylinder T5 engine and driving through the five-speed Geartronic automatic transmission.
And Volvo C30 DRIVe now delivers 84kW of power and 270Nm of torque from its upgraded, Euro5-compliant 1.6-litre turbo-diesel, driving through a six-speed manual transmission. The Volvo C30 DRIVe returns a staggering 3.9l/100kms for the combined cycle fuel consumption and emits just 104g/km of C02.
Amongst the other upgrades, all Volvo models now come standard with the Emergency Brake Light (EBK) system which flashes the brake lights five time per second under heavy braking and automatically activates the hazard lights when speed slows to 10 km/h.
All C30, C70, S40 and V50 models are now fitted with daytime running lights in their front spoilers.
And Volvo has enhanced its optional Adaptive Cruise Control system.
As well there are numerous styling changes inside and out.
