When it comes to stylish good looks, it’s hard to beat BMW’s gorgeous 6 Series. Now the latest lineup has been boosted by the arrival of the latest high-performance M versions in both coupe and convertible.
The stunning twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine now packs more punch with 412kW between 6000-7000rpm (up by 10 per-cent) and 680Nm from 1500rpm (up by 30 per-cent) and there are significant improvements in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions (both cut by 30 per cent) – the BMW M6 Coupe rated at 9.9l/100kms/232g/km and the convertible at 10.3l/100kms/239g/km. Assisting those improved consumption figures is auto start-stop.
Drive is via BMW’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters and launch control.
BMW says the latest M6 Coupe accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds with the convertible just one-tenth slower.
There’s the usual high-class ‘M’ additions to boost the styling inside and out and, as per the previous model, the coupe runs a roof panel made from lightweight carbon-fibre. New 20-inch alloy wheels look sharp with visible brake calipers painted in dark blue metallic and the convertible roof (19 seconds to open) runs aerodynamic fins at the rear.
Inside are carbon fibre trim highlights and a new-design leather-wrapped ‘M’ steering wheel with a thinner rim. Cargo capacity for the coupe is 460-litres while the convertible offers 350-litres with the roof closed or 300-litres when open.
On the technology front, the adjustable chassis configuration has been improved – two setting (M1 and M2) to alter damper mappring, steering, gear-shifts and the ESC operation. There’s also BMW’s excellent ‘Top View’ camera system, radar cruise control and a soft-close function for the doors.
Prices are:
