Mitsubishi will debut its all-new plug-in hybrid EV version Outlander SUV at the paris Motor Show in September.
The plug-in hybrid EV version of the Mitsubishi Outlander shares its chasses architecture with the conventional-powered models however Mitsubishi designed the all-new Outlander from the outset with both powertrains.
As a permanent all-wheel-drive vehicle, the new Outlander will be the world’s first permanent all-wheel-drive electric vehicle.
Mitsubishi will equip the hybrid Outlander with a petrol engine (like Toyota’s Prius and Honda’s Civic) as the Japanese manufacturer says petrol-powered engines still proliferate in its global markets. The petrol engine will generate power for the twin electric motors (pone at the front and one at the rear) and will also provide drive for the front wheels when operatin in parallel mode.
A combined range of more than 800kms will be achievable in the Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid.
Mitsubishi will launch the regular Outlander later this year while the plug-in hybrid version is slated for European introduction during 2013.
