MINI has confirmed a four-model lineup for its stunning, new, two-seat coupe model.
Entry-level is the Cooper Coupe (90kW/160Nm, naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre), next-up is the Cooper S Coupe (135kW/240Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre) and the range-topper is the John Cooper Works Coupe (155kW/260Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre). There is also the 105kW/305Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel powered Cooper SD Coupe.
It’s a looker with a complex coupe interpretation of the classic MINI design featuring a ‘helmet’ roof which rides 52mm lower than normal MINI models and an large, active rear spoiler which rises at speeds in excess of 80km/h.
Despite the hallmark MINI ‘chunkiness’, in silhouette, the new MINI coupe looks classically flat and sporty – a real GT. In fact, inside, the new MINI Coupe provides scalloped oval-shaped recesses in the roof lining for extra driver and front passenger head-room.
The MINI Coupe chassis features extra stiffening and the weight distribution has been shifted slightly forwards compared to conventional MINI models.
There are exclusive colours for both the interior and exterior (the latter always featuring a contrasting roof).
And of course the usual MINI technology abounds such as dynamic stability and traction control, optional electronic differential lock.
