The fifth model in the MINI lineup has arrived – the elegantly sporty MINI Coupe.
Virtually identical in size and wheelbase to the regular MINI, the nicely-styled Coupe – MINI’s first two-seater – runs a high-opening tailgate for access to the surprisingly large, 280-litre luggage area. The changed architecture has lead to a slight forward shift of the weight distribution (MINI says the extra weight over the front wheels aids handling) and aerodynamics are enhanced by the raked front windscreen and active roof spoiler (deploys above 80km/h) – there’s also an added aerodynamic pack included in the John Cooper Works version.
In Europe, the engine choice includes petrol engines delivering 90kW, 135kW and 155kW plus a 105kW diesel. Drive is via six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
As usual there is the massive MINI driver aids such as stability and traction control and optional electronic differential lock.
Interior appointments vary according to model grade, but in typical MINI fashion, the Coupe has lots of technology available – including adaptive headlights, Harman Kardon audio, satellite navigation and internet connectivity.
