If we said ‘Milan,’ we’d bet that most of you would think of Italy. You don’t have to be a geography expert to know the city of Milan resides in the northern part of Italy, and you wouldn’t have to be an expert in branding to assume that a company called Milan Automotive would be based in the town it got its name from.
Alas, in this case, we are mistaken. Milan Automotive (GmbH) is from Austria, and rather than make some impossibly-pretty sports car (the way Italian carmakers tend to), they’ve instead released the rather brutal-looking ‘Red’ hypercar. And while you might be wondering why it’s white, let us distract you with this interesting tidbit: There’s 975kW on tap beneath that divisive body.
It gets better: The 6.2-litre quad-turbo V8 motor sends its power to the rear only, and there’s a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic doing transmission duties. Altogether, the Red can hit 100km/h from rest in just 2.47-seconds, hit 200km/h in 5.5-seconds, and then hit 300km/h in 10-seconds before topping off at a speed in excess of 400km/h. The Red manages to achieve those numbers thanks to its lithe 1,300kg kerb weight, thanks to the extensive use of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, which is even employed int eh double-wishbone suspension (the first road-going car to do so, it’s claimed).
We’ve established it’s mighty fast, but the Red is capable of stopping on a dime too. Or perhaps two dimes, because despite enormous carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes and six-piston callipers up front (with fours at the rear), a 400km/h hypercar will need room to halt, even if it weighs as little as the Red does.
Just 99 of these cars will be made, and the hitherto-unknown Austrian carmaker claims that 18 have been accounted for already. An official price hasn’t been given but it’s rumoured to be north of €2-million (or roughly $3.2-million), which is a lot for something you’ve never heard of.
Stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you more updates as they come.
