Possibly the most remarkable automotive story so far in 2011 has been mia electric, a new French-German electric vehicle brand. Now comes news mia will display its clever Microbus at Britain’s EcoVelocity motor show from 8-11 September.
Headquartered in Cerizay, France, mia (the ‘m’ is lower case) electric is majority owned by German Professor Edwin Kohl, founder of Kohl Group pharmaceuticals.
Mia will display three variants of its zero-emissions Microbus at EcoVelocity – a follow-up to its launch earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. The company says production started in June, with plans to produce 4,000 vehicles this year, ramping-up to 14,000 by the end of 2012.
Tipping the scales between 750kgs – 759kgs, the three mia models were designed by former Volkswagen stylist Murat Gunak and are all powered by a rear-mounted 18kW electric motor. Top speed is around 110km/h and the 12 kw/h battery provides a range between re-charges of 130kms.
You can order a mia with three seats, four seats or a van version with one seat and a luggage capacity of 1,500-litres.
Ahead of its British debut, mia’s head of UK sales, Richard Deslandes said: “The mia has been designed with cities like London firmly in mind and we consider the UK as a primary market for us (alongside France and Germany). We’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’re received since we launched in Geneva and now have 3,000 confirmed orders.”
