Your www.carshowroom.com.au correspondent was on-hand as Mercedes-Benz rocked Melbourne’s motoring enthusiasts and socialites who were sipping bubbly at the opening of the annual ‘Motorclassica’ exhibition by whipping the covers from the all-new S 63 AMG Coupe.
Put simply, the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG is the most drop-dead gorgeous coupe the automotive world has seen.
From any angle the S 63 AMG oozes sporty sophistication and elegance.
Plenty of brawn too in the form of the 430kW/900Nm (yes, that’s right 900Nm!) AMG 5.5-litre biturbo V8 engine.
Compared to the outgoing CL 63 AMG, the newcomer boost output by 30kW/100Nm, ramps-up the luxury and technology yet, thanks to brilliant engineering is 65kgs (part of that story is the breakthrough use of a lightweight lithium-ion battery).
So, the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG - a large prestige coupe - covers zero to 100km/h in the supercar time of 3.9 seconds.
Fuel consumption is also better than the CL 63 AMG – combined-cycle rated at 10.1l/100kms.
Underneath is Airmatic air suspension and Magic Body Control with the world’s first curve tilting function (the S 63 AMG tilts into corners like a downhill skier or motorcyclist – said to reduce motion sickness).
Mercedes-Benz Australia will launch the S 63 AMG Coupe next year and although prices have not been finalized, ‘Benz communications chief David McCarthy told us the right-hand-drive car on display in Melbourne was Australian specification.
