The all-new bi-turbo V8 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG, unquestionably one of the world’s greatest high-performance SUVs, is slated for Australian launch in June 2012.

With 386kW/700Nm under the bonnet, the new bi-turbo 4.7-litre V8 packs a mighty punch (eclipsing the Porsche Cayenne Turbo by 18kW) and with the AMG Performance Package ups the ante with extra turbocharger boost delivering 410kW/760Nm. But with combined cycle fuel consumption down to 11.8l/100kms the all-new Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG is significantly more fuel efficient than its naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 predecessor (16.5l/100kms).

Drive is to all four wheels via Benz’ AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel-drive system (40/60 front/rear).

As expected, technology bounds forwards too with the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG running active roll stabilization thanks to a newly-developed Active Curve System. This system works with the Airmatic air suspension and Adaptive Damping System and active roll bars front and rear to compensate for body roll (often a drawback with high performance SUVs).

Styling gets the full AMG treatment with a front spoiler, revised ait intakes, front fenders 10mm wider than standard 20-inch or 21-inch light alloy wheels, unique headlights (Intelligent Light System is optional) and a rear diffuser in black.
