Mercedes-AMG Teases Project One Again

The halo-car of a generation?

Mercedes-AMG is now just days away from unveiling its world-beating Project One hypercar, a project that aims to bring the F1 experience to the road. Powered by a motorsports drivetrain and built with the same fastidious attention to detail, the Project One is the realisation of a dream the company has had, to build the purest road-going race car that’ll offer track performance like nothing else.

Built around a 1.6-litre turbo-V6, the Project One isn’t just making mention of Formula 1 for the sake of marketing traction. While the powerplant will see some changes (like setting the rev-limiter at 11,000rpm rather than 15,000rpm to appease emissions and noise regulations), the Project One’s drivetrain is lifted almost entirely from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas W07 Formula One race car. This is very much a highly-stressed thoroughbred racer, even if it touts a 50,000km service interval (which, in this rarified class of vehicle, is incredibly infrequent).

While Mercedes-AMG has not accompanied the latest teaser with new information, we at least already know that Project One will offer more than 750kW of power, thanks to dual 120kW electric motors for each front wheel and a third 100kW motor for the rear wheels, as well as the 558kW on tap from the petrol V6 in the middle. No official power and torque figures at this point, though it’s safe to say that this sub-1000kg hypercar will easily eat lap times at hallowed circuits around the globe.

Priced at $3.2-million (and already sold out), the Project One will make its formal debut at the Frankfurt motor show in a few days, so stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you more updates as they come.
