To be honest, ‘Project One’, as a name, would have served Mercedes-AMG just as well when it came to christening their newest hypercar endeavour, one that would integrate Formula 1 technology more closely than any other road going machine has ever done.

It’s to be called simply the Mercedes-AMG ONE (yes, in caps), which might be the most puzzlingly minimal of names since McLaren F1 made its debut, latterly followed by the P1. However, given their current dominance over the sport, nobody will likely stop to argue Affalterbach’s thought process or their right to produce a very limited run of road cars cut from the very edge of high performance automobile technology.

This name reveal comes almost a good year after the car was shown off in its prototype form. The Project One, as it was still called, was touted to be the first to incorporate a full-fledged F1 engine, replete with an advance energy recovery and hybrid drive system.

Much of that design brief has not changed, and should these pictures be any indication of what we can expect to be on display at the Paris Motor show this weekend, the finished car is nearly indistinguishable from the concept.

As we covered previously, Mercedes-Benz is currently putting the ONE through some private final stage testing in the UK, at a location suspected to be the semi-famous proving grounds at Millbrook.

Supposedly, Affalterbach are also giving would-be owners of the ONE very close access to this developmental phase of the vehicle, able to obtain comprehensive information on its status as it inches closer to its finished state.

Buyers are also treated to this mobile showroom via this custom-built trailer with extendable sides, incorporating a lounge and coffee bar while they admire the hypercar. Inside, one can become very familiar with the exterior and cockpit as well as orienting themselves with the different modes and features controllable via the driver-oriented and F1-inspired switchgear.
