Fourth new model as part of the Track25 plan.

British performance marque McLaren are preparing to release their all-new GT in another week or so, which will see the creation of a separate, parallel family of vehicles that will coexist alongside the established Sports, Super, and Ultimate Series designations. The GT aims to “redefine the rules of Grand Touring” by marrying McLaren agility to proper-touring comfort, which the company claims will deliver an “exceptional” experience.

Notably, the McLaren GT will be the only car to share common attributes with the Speedtail, the 772kW three-seater exercise of absolute madness. Like the Speedtail, the new GT bears a design that is markedly different from the rest of the range, which also deals with detractors that felt that the preceding 570GT looked too much like a 570S.

Motivation in the new car should come from the familiar 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, but tuned to levels hitherto unseen from the mill, perhaps more in keeping with the outputs seen on the 720S. It should also come round with a price tag in the UK of about £145,000 (or just over $270k), though that will be detailed during the reveal, we hope. The GT is the fourth new model under the Track25 plan, with a total of 18 cars set to debut from Woking by 2025.

McLaren boss Mike Flewitt said during the announcement of the McLaren GT during the Geneva motor show that the new car would be the first of several more practical, high-performance vehicles from the brand. We believe it won’t be the first of a fourth model series though, as while Flewitt described the GT as a “unique, tailored model,” he also clarified that it would sit alongside the existing 3 series in its own space.
