McLaren Unveils Special 675LT Carbon Series

McLaren has a new special edition version of the 675LT which they are calling the Carbon Series LT and only 25 examples will ever be made, and all are already sold.

The LT at the end of the name started with the McLaren F1 “Long Tail”  of the 1990s, and the ethos continues here too. The Carbon Series LT has an extra 40 percent of its body constructed of carbon fibre and given a gloss finish, left unpainted and its weave exposed to tap into the McLaren P1 hypercar’s visual appeal.

The car’s front bumper with larger splitter and end plates, front under body, side skirts, side intakes, lower side intakes, rear bodyside lower, rear fenders, rear deck, rear bumper, diffuser and ‘Longtail’ Airbrake are all carbon fibre. Even the electrically retractable roof is now carbon fibre.

McLaren wouldn’t disclose exactly how much weight all that extra carbon components adds up to in savings, but will definitely result in a more potent power-to-weight ratio. It’s powered by the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine as in the 675LT coupe, producing 496kW and 700Nm that allows a 2.9 second sprint time to 100km/h from rest (very quick for a rear-wheel drive car) and a top speed of 326km/h.

Let’s delve into the what exactly is the MSO Carbon Series LT. Because it was built by MSO (McLaren Special Operations), which also built the MSO 675LT Spider earlier this year, which is already special edition of the McLaren 675LT Spider.

The trail widens further from there, with that being a roofless derivative of the hard top 675LT, and that being an evolution of their 650S. So far the Carbon Series LT is the third model to wear the LT badge.
