McLaren’s latest teaser shows that they are pursuing an even more extreme version of their Sports Series cars, based off of the 570S. The single image preview and accompanying video are pretty light on details, but because the 540C and 570GT have already rounded out most of the range, their only option seems to be one of higher performance.
The only real look at the car comes in the form of its rear end, exposing its carbon fibre panel work with larger diffuser, and looking frightfully familiar with every model in their Sports Series, but missing its corner exhaust exit. This omission is particularly telling as it hints at a possible 570LT, that new acronym standing for Longtail, emerging as a nickname for the McLaren F1 GT and GTR due to its extended tail.
If true, that means that the exhaust exists from its twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 have been centralised, resulting in a rear fascia more race-inspired and similar to the 720S, the 650S, and its more extreme variant, the 675LT, further supporting the theory that this will be the new flagship of their Sports Series cars.
However, where the 675LT featured some rather extensive internal modifications and exterior alterations to make it quite a bit more distinctive and significantly more potent than a 650S, it’s also likely that McLaren won’t take things too far with this more performant 570LT, if nothing else but to avoid encroaching on their higher tier vehicles: the Super Series.
Naturally, the flagship 570 will still use the bi-turbo V8 found in every other modern road car from Woking, but power is expected to rise to around 447kW, an increase of 22kW. That, coupled with the aerodynamic improvements, more liberal use of ultra lightweight materials, and more aggressive calibrations to its suspension and transmission, will mean that the new LT will definitely have a leg up over the 570S, at least on track.
Looking at how the car is being teased with a real life example of a near-production prototype, we expect this new model to be revealed quite soon.
