McLaren’s Special Operations division will basically make any permutation that catches your fancy a reality, so far as they can shoehorn it onto one of their mid-engine supercars. So far, their output has been rather sedate, confined to custom interior details, special exterior colours, and perhaps bespoke wheels.

All of those customisation touch points have been applied to the Pikes Peak Collection, which are based off of the 600LT Spider, and commissioned by McLaren of Denver, whose state the Pikes Peak Hillclimb takes place.

The theme here seems to surround gold and matte black with former being the uniform wheel colour. To contrast this, six special body colours are offered to buyers of the extremely limited run Pikes Peak Collection (6 cars in total), these include: Nerello Red, Volcano Red, Midas Grey, Aurora Blue, White Gold, and Black Gold.

Inside, reminders of this being a slightly more special 600LT are peppered throughout. There are gold accent applied to the shift paddles and steering wheel as well as the single piece carbon bucket seats, in between which is a plaque to denote which one of the six cars you’re in.

Other than that, the mechanicals of the 600LT Spider have been left untouched. The pinnacle of McLaren’s Sports Series can sprint to 100km/h in under 3 seconds thanks to a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that offers up 441kW and 620Nm.

“It’s really special for us to be able to offer a car like the 600LT Spider, which is already quite special itself with its Longtail heritage, and tie it into Pikes Peak, a race that is so significant to Colorado residents, as well as the racing community globally,” said Mike Ward, owner of McLaren Denver.

“Six very lucky customers will be the proud owners of these amazing McLaren 600LT Spiders, and we can’t wait to see them on the road and on the track in Colorado,” he added.
