Hey, we’re the first to admit we love the looks of the Mazda6 but the one in this photo really lifted our heart-rates.
This is the North American Grand-Am racing version and it looks brilliant to say the least.
And it’s historically significant too as yesterday the number 70 Mazda6 racer became the first diesel-powered vehicle to win at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway with class victory in the series’ GX class (the fifth consecutive win for the Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D which lifts it to the head of the points table, ahead of Porsche with four events still to go.
Not that Mazda was the first to front at the famed ‘Brickyard’ with a diesel-powered race car. In fact, in 1952 the ‘Cummins Engine Special’ took pole position for the Indianapolis 500.
