Mazda has signed an agreement with OJSC Sollers to establish a joint vehicle production plant in Vladivostok, Russia.
OJSC Sollers is one of Russia’s leading domestic automotive companys and it plans to produce its own vehicle at the plant alongside the Mazda CX-5 and upcoming all-new Mazda6.
Plans are for initial annual production of 50,000 vehicles per year, growing to 70,000 when fully operational.
Bouncing back from the global financial crisis, new car sales in Russia grew by 40 per cent last year to 2.65 million units, making it Europe’s second-largest market after Germany. Annual sales are tipped to break 3.0 million units by 2015.
