Mazda will bring the first of its new SKY Concept powertrains to Australia next year.
The ‘Mazda SKY-G’ petrol engine will deliver reduced fuel consumption and improve torque. Development on the new engine family has focused on optimized combustion and reduced mechanical losses.
Also on the agenda is the next generation SKY-Drive automatic transmission which reduces fuel consumption by five per cent. This new transmission features an extended lock-up range for a more direct shift feel and sportier driving dynamics.
Globally Mazda is aiming for a 30 per cent reduction in fuel consumption across its entire range by 2015.
As part of the program, Mazda is also working on reducing the weight of its vehicles and improving aerodynamic efficiency.
Further down the track, look for i-stop - Mazda’s engine start-stop system - regenerative braking and a hybrid drive system – all slated for introduction in Japan in the new future.
