Australia is part of a massive worldwide recall campaign initiated by Toyota for the top-selling HiLux ute and Yaris compact car.
Some 179,000 current generation HiLux vehicles built between April 2004 and December 2009 require inspection of the airbag cable within the steering column.
Toyota says not all vehicles will require rectification but those which do will need about one hour of workshop time at Toyota dealerships.
For the Yaris (previous generation three-door and five-door models built between June 2005 and May 2010) the recall is for attention to springs within the seat sliding track.
Rectification work will take between 1.5 and 3.0 hours.
Yaris and HiLux owners will be contacted by Toyota and the required work will be carried-out free of charge.
