Famed Italian sports car builder, Maserati, has just revealed a special edition series called the Royale. Only 100 units of the series will be manufactured across their entire vehicle line-up. In a statement put out by the brand, the Royale series is meant as homage to the Trident marques heritage.
Back in 1987, Maserati pulled the covers off the 3rd generation Quattroporte Royale which featured exclusive paint schemes, improved interiors with softer leather upholstery and wood trimming on the dashboard and door panels. The Quattroporte Royale was equipped with a 223kW 4.9-litre V8 and only 51 examples were ever produced.
The new Royale series on the other hand will not be available with a great big V8 but rather three V6 powerplants, one of which – a diesel. The oil burner produces 205kW while the two petrol-fed 3.0-litre mills churn out 260kW and 320kW each.
Just like the Quattroporte Royale from 30 years ago, the pièce de résistance is the interior. Regardless of model, the Royale starts off in GranLusso trim. From there customers can choose between Zegna Pelletessuta Cuoio in saddle brown or a two-tone black and brown upholstery. Zegna Pelletessuta is a woven leather textile that’s made exclusive for Maserati. The leather trim is Nappa leather.
The Royale series will not only receive a high-gloss finish (Metal Net for the Levante, Ebony for the Ghibli and Black Piano for the Quattroporte) but also a distinctive “1 of 100” plate. The Bowers & Wilkins sound system, electric sunroof and privacy glass complete the interior’s look. There’s also an 8.4-inch Maserati Touch Control Plus touchscreen display offering controls for the air-conditioning, rear sunblind and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The special series also comes with the Cold Weather, Premium and Driving Assistance Plus Packages fitted as standard. It will also feature the brand’s Advanced Driving Assistance Systems to actively respond to potential hazards and enhance comfort and safety for both driver and passengers, said the brand.
The Royale series is available in two unique colours namely: Blu Royale and Verde Royale. Although the first deliveries are slated for March 2020, the order books for the Royale are already open. As mentioned only 100 units will be manufactured. In the United Kingdom, the Royale starts at £78,900 (AU$148,551) for the Ghibli, £85,300 (AU$160,601) for the Levante and £103,150 (AU$194,208) for the Quattroporte.
