A song of ice and power. And snow.
The Lucid Air, arguably one of the motoring industry’s most exciting new prospects, continues to undergo all of the relevant testing it needs to get itself prepared to take the battle on to more established EV marques. As such, Lucid Motors thought it best to ship out some of its “alpha development prototypes” to the frigid American state of Minnesota for low-temperature testing.
With temperatures reaching lows of -28C, this proved an ideal situation to put the Air’s drivetrain through its paces, to see if the battery packs, motors, and everything in between them would work just as fine at room temperature as it would on ice. It also allowed engineers the chance to fine-tune the various stability and traction systems prior to its market introduction in 2018.
With 745kW on tap and all-wheel drive, the Lucid Air can rocket from rest to 100km/h in around about 3.0-seconds, and will hit the market fully-capable of autonomous driving. The tests out in Minnesota were likely to refine the Air’s autonomous driving abilities to ensure effectivity no matter the weather.
They say that they were there to work on “braking systems and vehicle dynamics,” but judging by this video, the engineers may have just been having some fun in the snow with their brilliant new car. Either way, this hypes up the impending Air in all the right ways, and we can barely contain our excitement.
