Despite being escorted off the road by him team-mate on Saturday, Red Bull-888 Racing Holden Commodore driver Craig Lowndes scooped the V8 Supercar pool at Symmons Plains, Tasmania, easily winning yesterday’s 84 lap race to leave the ‘Apple Isle’ heading the championship points table.
The pundits were quick to point fingers after Lowndes and team-mate Jamie Whincup impersonated racing rookies and tangled with Lowndes definitely coming off worse-for-wear.
But the veteran bounced-back with a flawless display yesterday while Whincup made a tactical blunder by heading to pits on lap one and actually did a great job to fight back and finish second behind his dominant team-mate.
Holden Racing Team driver James Courtney showed maturity with a forceful drive to finish third ahead of the Erebus E63 of Will Davsion.
It must be said the tight 2.4kms Symmons Plains circuit did not deliver the normal ‘biff-and-bash’ style of racing and all three races were surprisingly flat.
Lowndes leads the points table on 532 points from Whincup (462), Fabian Coulthard (447), Courtney (429) and Mark Winterbottom, best of the Fords (406).
