Toyota Australia has ramped-up production of Camry and Aurion models to the same level as before the devastating earthquake and tsunami which struck Japan.
With component supply from Japan slowed, since 9 May, Toyota’s plant in Avalon, Victoria had been operating at only 50 per cent capacity.
Now Toyota is back to producing 9,000 vehicles per month, 70 per cent of which are exported to the Middle East, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
“The reduced production volumes made fulfilling customer orders challenging, but by working with existing supply in the circumstances we were able to maintain good sales,” explained Toyota Australia’s Manufacturing Director, Chris Harrod.
Local Toyota dealers will also see more imported vehicles arriving thanks to a faster than expected recovery from plants in Japan and Thailand.
Crucially, Toyota Australia says the production problems have not delayed development of the next generation Camry which is on track for local launch late this year.
