After a phenomenal continuous span of 68 years the final Land Rover Discovery has been produced at Solihull in England.
The actual car in question was a ‘Defender 90 Heritage Soft Top’ and some 700 past and current employees were invited to watch the historic occasion.
While the original Land Rover Defender sold for £450 at the 1948 Amsterdam Motor Show, the 2,000,000th example fetched £450,000 when it was produced in December last year.
Of course the replacement – the all-new Land Rover Defender has big tyre tracks to fill when it debuts later this year.
Previous owners include HRH Queen Elizabeth, Sir Winston Churchill and noted car buff the late Steve McQueen.
A total of 2,016,933 Land Rover Defenders were made between 1948 and now.
And two original parts were fitted to all of them – the hood cleats and underbody support strut.
