Car Showroom reported enthusiastically a few months back after sampling the latest Range Rover and Land Rover Discovery 4 models at the world launch in Scotland and now leading British magazine What Car? has confirmed our thoughts by crowning the Discovery 4 the Best 4X4 in its prestigious 2010 Awards.

Defeating a star-studded field including the Lexus RX450h, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz ML, the magazine said the Discovery's 'brilliance remains undimmed'.

Steve Fowler, editor of What Car? said: 'Thanks to a recent comprehensive update, the Discovery is still shining brighter than ever…It is its ability to excel at so many different roles that makes it so appealing. As well as offering executive car comfort and MPV practicality, it's still a real go-anywhere off roader.'

We couldn't have said it better Steve…especially after testing the 'Disco' on some wild sealed roads and extreme off-road tracks in the north of the UK.

What Car? also named the range Rover Vogue its 'Best Buy'. The magazine said: 'The Range Rover is perfectly at home in terrain that would make a tank commander think twice, but it's also a genuine alternative to luxury saloons, both in the way it drives and the quality it exudes.'

Again, after some high-speed motoring and tough off-roading in Scotland and Wales, we agree 100 per cent with those comments about the latest 'Rangie'.

The latest 2010 Land Rover Discovery 4 and Range Rover models are now on-sale in Australia.
