Trust Land Rover to develop technology to address a common problem for serious off-roaders – what is actually under your car.
Land Rover’s ‘Transparent Bonnet’ virtual imaging concept will be revealed at next week’s New York International Auto Show as part of the new Defender concept.
The technology provides full visibility of what is underneath and in front of the car – so you can actually see those often hidden objects which regularly inflict damage.
Cameras are located in the front grille capture data to feed a ‘Head-Up’ display creating a ‘see=through’ view of the bonnet and engine bay.
As any serious off-roader will tell you, as well as seeing obstacles under the car, Land Rover’s ‘Transparent Bonnet’ also allows you to see the angle and position of the front wheels – another boon to negotiating those tough tracks.
