Land Rover will be introducing updated engines for their Discovery Sport plucked from their new Ingenium family of motors. These will replace the 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesels that were found in the outgoing TD4 variants.
Along with the new engine, or perhaps due to it, the starting price of the Discovery Sport will undergo a price bump of around $335 to $56,355.
In addition to the more modern engine, Land Rover has also updated the SUV’s technology suite, equipping it with a 10.2-inch touchscreen with its InControl Touch Pro infotainment system and comes together with the now-standard Meridian speaker system.
Buyers can also specify their new Discovery Sport with the optional Rear Seat Entertainment Package that adds two screens for, you guessed it, the rear passengers.
Under the bonnet, Jaguar Land Rover’s new 2.0-litre Ingenium four-cylinder diesel engine comes in two states of tune. In TD4 150 guise, the motor produces 110kW and 380Nm of torque but uses much less fuel over the outgoing engine at a claimed 5.3-litres/100km - a 0.7-litres/100km improvement.
The more powerful TD4 180 version generates 132kW and 430Nm of torque while also sipping a claimed 5.3-litres/100km in spite of the increased output. Both those figures match the outgoing 2.2-litre diesel engine in the 0-100km/h dash at 10.3 and 8.9 seconds respectively.
All Land Rover Discovery Sport variants have their engines mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and fitted with steering column-mounted paddle shifters.
