Kia’s design-lead resurgence moves relentlessly forwards with the handsome new Sportage SUV set to bow at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
If you have any doubt about the influence of a top-shelf designer on an automotive company, look at the Kia range now with this new Sportage joining its large sibling the Sorento, then there is the Cerato and Cerato Koup and the funky SOUL – all the work of former Volkswagen style chief Peter Schreyer.
Or putting it another way, Kia says the Sportage embodies the company’s “newfound visual dynamism”.
While Kia Australia has not yet released full details on the new Sportage, due here mid-year, it is clear from these photos the compact SUV is taking a dramatic shift. Simultaneously bold, athletic and sporty, the Sportage also exudes an urban-friendly design.
And while earlier vehicles from all the Korean brands tended to reflect consumer tastes in their domestic markets, Kia and Hyundai have clearly embraced global requirements and achieved obvious success - Hyundai is now the world’s number four, best-selling automotive brand.
The all-new Sportage is longer, lower and wider than its predecessor and will offer increased passenger and cargo space.
