The Kia Picanto, now in its second generation, has managed to undergo a graceful ageing as the Korean manufacturer’s smallest car. In fact, it has only been 5 years since its introduction, but also means an all-new version is imminent.
Here we have a little sketch/render of the next-generation Picanto city car, teased by Kia, and showing a much more substantial, even more aggressive design. Take that with a grain of salt, though, as this might actually measure exactly (or close to) the current car. These are ‘artists impressions’ after all.
In fact, Kia even specifies that it will retain “its characteristically compact dimensions”. In spite of that possibly skewed perspective, the next Picanto has undeniably bolder and more assertive look, adopting the marque’s newest corporate face and what look to be LED guide lights around back.
Kia also points out that the car will have the ability to be customised by buyers, both on the inside and exterior. Those red accents that run from the front bumper, down the sides, and across the rear bumper seem ripe for this kind of mild personalisation.
The interior has also been fittingly upgraded, also adopting the Kia layout with its more stepped dashboard, sportier steering wheel, and top-mounted touchscreen infotainment panel above the central air conditioning vents.
The all-new city car, Kia says, is being prepped for an early 2017 launch without specifying exactly when. Unless they plan to hold a special event just for it, a debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January or the Geneva Motor Show in March are both possibilities.
