Kia says immediately following the current Seoul Motor Show its latest Naimo electric car will join its test fleet of hybrid, electric and fuel-cell vehicles as the Korean company grapples with all sorts of technologies for its automotive future.
The Naimo is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor providing 80kW/280Nm and a top speed of 150km/h.
Kia has mounted the lithium ion polymer batteries under the boot and claims a 200kms range from a single charge of the 27kWh twin battery pack. A quick re-charge provides 80 per cent of capacity within 25 minutes while five and a half hours on the normal 3.3kW cycle provides 100 per cent charge.
With its 20-inch alloy wheels a muscular looks, the Kia Naimo thumbs its nose at the traditionally ‘soft’ looks of electric vehicles. There are no B-pillars - rear-hinged doors are used to provide access to the rear seats.
And with its 3890mm length, 1844mm width and 1589mm height, the Kia Naimo is certainly no shrinking violet.
Also MIA on the Kia Naimo are windscreen wipers and external mirrors. A high-pressure air jet cleans water from the windscreen while tiny external cameras present the driver with on-screen views of the view out back.
