Great news from the Geneva Motor Show with confirmation the turbocharged Kia ‘pro_cee’d GT’ is destined for sale in Australia.
In fact we’ll be the only market outside Europe to get the racy three-door hatchback with the most difficult model name in automotive history.
Due on-sale in Europe this month, the Kia ‘pro_cee’d GT’ is powered by a 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine. Compared to the regular naturally-aspirated Kia ‘pro_cee’d (which is not coming to Australia) the GT delivers 51 per-cent more power and 61 per-cent more torque…certainly enough to get hot-hatch fans excited any day of the week.
Driving through a six-speed manual transmission, the Kia ‘pro_cee’d GT’ covers zero to 100km/h in 7.7 seconds.
Looks are ‘brillo’ - as we expect from Kia design chief Peter Schreyer – and top-sped models run Xenon head-lights, a panoramic glass roof and automatic climate-control air-conditioning.
The Kia ‘pro_cee’d GT’ will be manufactured at Kia’s plant in Zilina, Slovakia but exact Aussie on-sale date and prices are still being negotiated.
