No surprise Kia chose the Detroit Auto Show to present the massive Telluride SUV.

It’s big all-right (wheelbase is 3081mm) and could rival the likes of say Mazda CX-9 and Toyota Kluger particularly in the North American market.

However, unlike the rivals from Japan, Kia Telluride doffs its cap to environmentalists with its petrol-electric drivetrain offering fuel consumption as low as 7.8l/100kms.

It’s a 3.5-litre petrol V6 paired with electric power to deliver a combined 298kW.

Styling is certainly a new direction for Kia with the corporate ‘Tiger Nose’ adopting a blunt look to match the square rear-end (again this is the sweetspot for the North American market).

Shown in Detroit as a concept, Kia says the Telluride isn’t confirmed for production (although the vehicle shown certainly looked production-ready) and the company was planning to ascertain public reaction in ‘Motor City’ before taking the next step.
