Kia has once again teased its upcoming four-door performance coupe before it’s official debut at the Detroit Motor Show, which is only weeks away. This time showing off some of its lines and exterior details in a new video titled ‘The Silhouette’.
Most notably, we spy a pair of hood vents that reminds us of the Jaguar XKR-S, a clear look at the car’s coupe-like sloped roofline, and dual exhausts which - considering their housing integrated into the rear bumper - we expect to be part of a quad exit setup.
This newest peek is part of Kia’s hype campaign in the lead up to the car’s motor show premiere. Previously another teaser was released showing the car being tested on a track with some key performance figures thrown in for good measure.
The Korean automaker claims it can accelerate to 100km/h from rest in 5.1 seconds, making it the fastest Kia off the line. Also disclosed was its top speed in excess of 240km/h. From then on, we had a chance to hear the engine note as it attacked some bends, which to our ears sound like a twin-turbocharged V6.
Prior to this in-house campaign, dubbed ‘The Curve Ahead’, the Kia sports saloon was seen being tested around the Nurburgring while heavily disguised. From the shape, it was immediately apparent that the future car will follow the Kia GT concept quite closely.
More recently, a leaked picture taken inside a Kia facility confirmed that it is indeed very similar to the 2011 concept shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with much of the car’s shape and major design points seemingly unaltered.
Along with that, it was reportedly confirmed from a person within Kia heavily involved with the project that the car will be rear-wheel driven and will likely be powered a by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine instead of a V6 initially, with plans for a diesel version to follow.
