UK market gets Jeep’s new top-spec luxury Cherokee with more powerful and efficient turbodiesel.
We first saw the new Jeep Cherokee Overland early in 2016 (January, actually) and again, but in the flesh this time, at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Three months later and Jeep is now ready for this range-topping Cherokee to go on sale.
Jeep will sell the new Cherokee Overland there for a starting price of £38,745 or roughly $74,200 Australian, and will come in four exterior colour options: Deep Cherry Red, Brilliant Black, Bright White, and Billet Silver.
It’s exterior has some defining touches to set it apart from the lesser Cherokee variants. There are 18-inch polished bright aluminium wheels, polished front grille, body-coloured door cladding, standard HID bi-XENON headlamps.
Inside, the new 2016 Cherokee Overland has seats upholstered in Nappa leather in Morocco Black or a new Pearl colour, heated and ventilated front and passenger seats, Berber floor mats, new steering wheel with wood inserts, anodised silver bezels and vent surrounds, Alpine premium sound system, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display with satellite navigation.
Instead of the 3.2-litre Pentastar V6 that will be found in the North American versions of the Cherokee Overland, Jeep will offer UK buyers only one engine option: an FCA-sourced 2.2-litre four-cylinder MultiJet II common rail direct injection turbodiesel that outputs 147kW and 440Nm of torque.
It’s paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission and reaches the four wheels with either the Jeep’s Active Drive I or more sophisticated Active Drive II four-wheel drive systems. Jeep claims the Cherokee Overland with this powertrain can achieve a 0-100km/h time of 8.5 seconds, a top speed of 127mph, and a combined fuel consumption figure of as low as 4.6-litres/100km.
