Jeep’s all-new compact model, the Renegade has arrived with prices starting from $29,500 (plus on-road costs).
Riding on a platform sourced from parent company Fiat, the Renegade looks the part and is nicely equipped but there’s no denying that $29.5K sticker is at odds with major rivals like the Mazda CX-3 (from $19,990), Nissan Juke (from $23,490), Ford EcoSport (from $20,790) and the Honda CR-V (from $24,990).
Range-topping Jeep Renegade Trailhawk is the only four-wheel-drive model (the rest are front-drivers) and it features 211mm worth of ground clearance and unique bumpers to aid approach and departure angles – but it will set you back $41,500.
The Trailhawk is also the only Renegade offered with the larger 129kW/230Nm 2.4-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine driving through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Entry-level Jeep Renegade Sport comes with a choice of two engines – the five-speed manual employs a 81kW/152Nm naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre powerplant while the Sport with the new six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission scores a 103kW/230Nm turbocharged 1.4-litre.
Both the Jeep Renegade Longitude and Limited models also employ the turbo 1.4.
Over the entry-level Sport, Jeep Renegade Longitude adds extras such as 17-inch alloy wheels, lumbar support for the drivers’ seat, front fog lights, blind spot monitoring and rear parking sensors.
Limited goes further with handy additions including satellite navigation (6.5-inch screen), a 7.0-inch colour TFT instrument cluster, leather trim (front seats heated and with electronic adjustment), 18-inch alloy wheels, nine-speaker audio and a heated steering wheel.
As well as all the off-road tech, Jeep Renegade Trailhawk is identified by a black front grille and unique leather seats.
