The numbers cannot be ignored – Jeep, one of the world’s most iconic SUV brands, has joined the downsizing revolution with the Geneva Motor Show launch of its first compact – the Jeep Renegade.
And thanks to its ownership by Fiat, the all-new Jeep Renegade, while designed in North America, enjoys some classy Italian craftsmanship to provide the combination of agility, style and quality buyers in this league demand. One look inside shows the benefits of aligning with the styling nous of Fiat.
The all-new Jeep Renegade has been designed for global markets, will come with a choice of 16 powertrains and sits on the brand’s new ‘small-wide 4x4 architecture’. Oh, and as it’s a Jeep, this baby can provide genuine off-road ability via the ‘Trailhawk’ model with best-in-class 4x4 Trail Rated capability including Jeep Selec-Terrain and Jeep Active Drive Low which includes 20:1 crawl ratio.
“The all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade expands the brand’s product portfolio and targets the rapidly expanding small SUV segment around the globe with benchmark levels of efficiency and driving dynamics, while at the same time delivering best-in-class 4x4 capability that customers expect from Jeep,” explained Jeep chief Mike Manley.
Unique in this league, the all-new Jeep Renegade offers a removable roof - a Jeep tradition which dates back to original 1941 Willys military vehicle. There are two versions of the ‘My Sky’ open-air roof systems (manual or electronic).
And Jeep has raised the bar in other areas as well – the Renegade will be the first compact SUV to offer a fuel-saving nine-speed automatic transmission. The nine-speeder will be paired with either the 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel or the 2.4-litre MultiAir2 petrol – all-up, the choice includes four petrol and two diesel engines.
