Mazda and Nissan have made early moves in the 2013 new car sales race with great performances in January.
Mazda moved ahead of Holden to rank second overall with sales of 8,912 vehicles while Nissan displaced Hyundai to secure sixth position with new vehicle sales of 7,248.
And there’s more to come from both Japanese powerhouses with Nissan just launching its all-new Pulsar small car (monthly sales tipped to top 1,000) plus the luxury Patrol full-size SUV and Mazda about to roll-out the more powerful 2.5-litre petrol engine for the top-selling CX-5 medium SUV.
Overall Toyota retained number one position although January sales of 13,375 were down by 690 vehicles on January 2012. Toyota’s January 2013 market share of 15.7 per-cent is identical to 12 months ago.
Toyota is also in ‘new model mode’ with the all-new RAV4 SUV slated for launch next week and sure to boost the company’s sales results in coming months.
Second-placed Mazda’s sales of 8,912 were sufficient to secure 10.4 per-cent of the market.
Mazda3 (3,945) topped the small car segment, Mazda2 (1,665) topped the light car segment, CX-5 (1,625) topped the medium SUV segment and Mazda6 (750) topped the medium passenger car segment.
Holden was third with sales of 8,811 vehicles (10.3 per-cent) ahead of fourth-placed Ford with 7,721 (9.0 per-cent).
Hyundai’s 6,816 sales (identical to January 2012) secured the sixth-place ranking and a market share of 8.0 per-cent.
