Jaguar’s flagship XJ model scores an update this year with the new range in Australian dealerships from November priced from $199,900.
Headlining the new range are a racy R-Sport model and a luxurious range-topping Autobiography variant – the latter exclusively a long-wheelbase.
Styling changes are subtle but you’ll notice a bolder front-end courtesy of a more upright grille and sculptured chrome blades in the outer air-intakes plus full LED headlights. At the rear are new LED tail-lights with a new J-signature graphic, oval exhaust tailpipes and a new-look bumper.
Inside the updated Jaguar XJ steps-up – previous Portfolio trim level now the entry-grade XJ Premium Luxury while the Portfolio itself gains extras such as quilted soft-grain leather seats and figured ebony veneer.
There’s also a new look satellite navigation system, better connectivity thanks to InControl Apps and Meridian digital audio all driven by an newer, better eight-inch colour touchscreen.
The new range-topping Autobiography features a leather-trimmed headliner, quilted semi-aniline leather seats with contrasting stitching, rich oak inlay veneer and illuminated stainless steel treadplates.
Our favourite sounds like the new Jaguar XJ R-Sport with sporty aero enhancements outside including a rear spoiler, 20-inch ‘Venom’ alloy wheels, R-Sport steering wheel, sports seats and piano black trim highlights.
Under the bonnet the 5.0-litre V8 and supercharged V6 petrol engine carry-on but the 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel sees output boosted to 220kW/700Nm while emissions and fuel consumption are down by around 6.0 per-cent.
Underneath the updated Jaguar XJ switches to electric power-assisted steering and the ‘All-Surface Progress Control’ traction control system we saw first in the XE.
Jaguar will announce the full Australian details closer to launch.
