Jaguar XE Debuts In Earls Court

Arguably Jaguar’s most important car for decades, the Jaguar XE promises significant sale volume possibilities for the iconic British brand as it jumps into the pool where currently the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 are doing laps.

Like the ‘Benz and the BMW, the Jaguar XE drives the rear wheels.

We love the looks – conservative for sure but nicely packaged and with just enough cues from the larger, stylish XJ and XF lineups to say there’s a family resemblance.

The long bonnet-setback cabin profile and the raised bootlid have a hint of BMW 5-Series – but there’s no doubt the XE exudes some serious muscle with those4 nicely bulging wheel-arches.

Underneath is an all-new platform – about which Jaguar makes much fuss about its significant weight-saving aluminium content – including an aluminium double wishbone front suspension.

Power comes from a range of forced-induction petrol and diesel engines from the ‘Ingenium’ family. Included are the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel code-named AJ200D which is good for 120kW/380Nm and 250kW supercharged V6.

That suggests a wide range for the Jaguar XE – to match the equally expansive lineup of C-Class and 3-Serues models.

On the technology front, the XE will be the first Jaguar with electric power steering (a Jaguar first).

It’s been leaked and previewed for some time, will be officially unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next month…but at this stage we can’t tell you when carshowroom.com.au will actually get to drive the new Jaguar XE.
