Jaguar’s XF sedan and Volkswagen’s Polo, Golf, Tiguan and Passat were segment-best performers in the ‘Secure By Design’ rankings for Australia’s most secure cars from the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council (NMVTRC).
The NMVTRC is a joint initiative of all Australian governments and insurers.
While the Jaguar XF was named as the most secure large car, the award for Volkswagen Polo shows good car security is not reserved for premium-price vehicles.
“While there are some luxury vehicles amongst the winners, the inclusion of many affordable cars, with the Polo starting at around $20,000 clearly demonstrates that good security is within reach of everyday motorists and that other manufacturers should be aspiring to matching these levels of design,” explained NMVTRC’s David Morgan.
More than 70 current models were considered in the test procedure which considered items like body stamping, micro dotting, immobilizers, ignition locks, boot locking and vehicle identification.
